Spring to do list….
Winter is almost over and we need to start thinking of getting our gardens ready. Here are some helpful hints that will keep you busy through early spring.
˜Start a garden journal or a file where you can keep articles clipped out of newspapers and magazines, or lists of ideas you want to try in your garden. Take a gardening class or join a gardening club for some fresh new ideas
~ If you didn’t have your soil tested last year, do that now so you can plan what type and how much fertilizer you will need to purchase and if you need to adjust the pH.
~ Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths and other early flowers can be deadheaded after the flowers finish. Do not cut foliage until it yellows, and the bulb is going dormant. The bulb needs the energy collected from the foliage for next year’s blooms. Plan to plant perennials, annuals or pots of annuals to hide the browning foliage
~ Organize your shed. Consider building or buying a new one.
~ Sharpen pruning shears, spade, edger and other tools. Purchase replacements for any hand tools that may have broken.
~ Build a birdhouse, bat house & some new window boxes. If you have kids, this is a great weekend activity, especially if you let them do some painting.
~ Revive old wooden patio furniture with a fresh coat of paint. Apply a fresh layer of scotch guard to all cloth patio furniture to prevent fade.
~ Check the roof and gutters for fallen leaves and twigs. Heavy rain will cause clogged gutters to overflow and possibly wash out your garden.
~ Personalize the garden now with new statuary, gazing balls, sundials, colorful pottery or a new bird bath that make the garden uniquely yours. Stop in any time to see our large selection of garden décor!!
